The Rot

This is a direct reinterpretation of Dianne Lee’s watercolor painting used as the cover for Adrianne Lenker’s album Songs . Instead of keeping the full saturation of the watercolor piece, I studied Irving Penn’s Iceland Poppy (2006) and showed the flowers rotting over time and becoming more abstract as a representation of the passage of time through the death of the flowers, but also the infinite possibilities of the future in the more abstract flowers and textiles included. I included lyrics from “not a lot, just forever” by Adrianne Lenker along the side of the embroidery hoop. I used my medium change as a play on words of sorts for the “sewn together” lyrics of the song. (click images below for information on the process of creating the piece)
